Scavenger Hunt

My 9th grade Ell students had Media Center orientation yesterday. The students were given a copy of a scavenger hunt to complete after the lesson. I helped the students complete the scavenger hunt in class using my computer and the projector. We conducted the search as a whole group. The scavenger hunt required us to search for the following?

1.  Go to Destiny Quest. Search for the key words “Walter Dean Myers”. Then narrow your search to only books with the Author “Walter Dean Myers”. Then narrow to only the genre “Fiction”. Then narrow to only books with less than “200” pages. How many results are left?
 2.  Go to the “1st Step –Database Passwords” or the "Database Passwords from Home" link on the Destiny CHS Homepage. What is YOUR login and password for Questia? *
3.  Go to the “Public Resource Lists” in Destiny. Pick one book off the “Don’t like to Read?” Try These.” list that sounds interesting to you. What is the title and author of the book? How many pages is the book?
4.  How long are books checked out?
5.  How many books are in the “Racing to Freedom” series by Alison Hart? Use Destiny to search.
6. How much is the overdue fine per day for books that are returned late?
7.  How many results do you get for skateboarding when you search by SUBJECT in Destiny?
8.  What about when you search by KEYWORD for skateboarding?
9.  In what section would you find the World Book Encyclopedias? (hint: sections include Fiction, Nonfiction, Graphic Novels, Reference, Story Collection, Spanish, Everybody, German)
